As we near the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, we are reminded of the seemingly perpetual war on terror in which the world now lives. Instead, how about if we share stories of kindness and resilience that emerged that day? Join us for an evening reception with Kevin Tuerff to discuss his book Channel of Peace: Stranded in Gander on 9/11. After the terrorist attacks on 9/11, Kevin was stranded in a tiny town in Canada, Gander, with more than 6,000 airline passengers who were forced to land there when the United States closed its airspace. Kevin will share with the audience how the small population of Gander came together to help all the “new habitants” stranded in their land and how this tragedy ended up restoring his faith in humanity.
His book “ Channel of Peace: Stranded in Gander on 9/11, which will be available for sale during the program, is now a Broadway musical called “Come from Away.” The World Affairs Council, in partnership with UNICEF Southeast, is bringing this unknown story to Atlanta in celebration of “World Peace Day” on September 21. Kevin will be in conversation with Jocelyn Dorsey, Director of Editorials and Public Affairs, WSB-TV.
